Pensioners demand 20% increment
October 3, 2019
Pensioners of the Migrants and Labour General Workers Union say the latest increment in utility tariffs gives cause to their call for a 20% increase of their pensions.
The union is also asking government to provide decent jobs for pensioners and retirees in the country to enable them generate decent pensions.
According to them the standard 10% increment does not reflect the current cost of living in the country, making it impossible for retirees to live in dignity.
Speaking in an interview with Accra based Starr FM, president of the union, Mr Moses Tei Partey said most pensioners in Ghana are paid between Gh¢300 and Gh¢500, which he says is woefully inadequate.
