Ghana’s economy now valued at GHS256.6 billion

October 1, 2018

Ghana’s economy is now valued at GHS256.6 billion after the rebasing of gross domestic product (GDP) based on measurements from 2013 instead of 2006. This is the second time in ten years that the Ghana Statical Service is rebasing figures in this country. This has created borrowing space for government as it will reduce the country’s debt to GDP ratio.

However, there is a negative implication on revenue as tax to GDP ratio is also expected to drop which may require the government to put in additional measures to boost revenue mobilization.
